New England Match Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five touchdowns during the current campaign
New England equaled their longest winning run since the Tom Brady period as they overcame AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph increases the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots answered in the second quarter as the rookie rushed for two short rushing scores before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of Henderson. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales kicked a two kicks in the final period as the home side wrapped up the victory
